The King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) has launched the third cycle of the “Tamkeen” project to support political initiatives, continuing its role as a national institution that supports national efforts to promote active political participation.
This comes in alignment with the political modernization path adopted by the state, alongside the administrative and economic modernization tracks. The launch of this cycle builds on the project’s ongoing role in supporting qualitative initiatives that enhance political awareness and participation, with a focus on local communities.
The “Tamkeen” project aims to support projects and initiatives that contribute to strengthening the concepts and outcomes of political modernization and expanding the base of community political participation, particularly among youth and women. It also seeks to build the capacities of political parties to create an enabling environment for political action based on platforms and clear plans.
The project also aims to empower youth leaders and provide them with the tools necessary for effective participation, in addition to supporting initiatives that promote youth engagement in local governance councils, including municipalities and decentralization councils.
Submitted projects seek to achieve the following four objectives: establishing and supporting an enabling environment to identify and empower youth leaders; enhancing and improving community political participation in general and youth participation in particular; contributing to strengthening platform-based party participation; and increasing women’s participation and representation in political life.
The project targets civil society organizations and non-profit companies working in the field of political awareness, provided that they are Jordanian non-governmental institutions registered with the relevant authorities.
The proposed project must align with the objectives of the applying institution, must not be funded by any other entity at the time of submission, and must not serve or promote any political party. The implementation period of the project must not exceed six months.
The Tamkeen project is implemented through several stages, beginning with the receipt of applications, followed by their evaluation by a specialized technical committee. Shortlisted projects then proceed to the interview stage, after which the projects selected for support are announced, followed by monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure that the intended objectives are achieved.
Through Tamkeen, direct financial support is provided to eligible institutions to implement their proposed initiatives and projects within the specified pillars, enabling them to translate their ideas into practical programs on the ground. This aligns with the objectives of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development in supporting political participation and strengthening national development. The support also aims to enhance the capacity of institutions to implement high-quality activities with tangible impact in the field of political awareness and participation, thereby contributing to the achievement of the project’s objectives and strengthening the institutional sustainability of the supported initiatives.
It is worth noting that the project funded 29 institutions during 2024 and 2025. Their initiatives focused on spreading community political awareness and stimulating an enabling environment for political and partisan engagement across different segments of society. These projects achieved tangible outcomes on the ground and contributed to integrating youth and women into the core of political life by equipping them with the knowledge and tools necessary for participation and strengthening their presence across various pathways of political engagement in the Kingdom. This has enhanced their tangible benefits and their conscious engagement in public life.
