Knowledge Stations
|
The Knowledge Stations www.ks.jo, which constituted the first step towards establishing nation-wide interconnected platform, provide local communities with advanced linkages for sharing knowledge and expertise whilst also synchronizing their objectives towards collectively realizing Jordan's ultimate vision for sustainable growth and development. The first Knowledge Station was established in Al Safawi area in October 2000, as part of phase one that comprised 20 KSs. In 2003, phase two and three were completed to raise the total number of fully operational stations to75. The process continued in 2007 to cover more areas in the Kingdom, with a total of 141 KS's established and distributed throughout the country. Tens of thousands of Jordanians of all ages and walks of life have been trained in these facilities on basic computer skills and other various advanced courses on how to utilize ICT towards enhancing their businesses, attaining health care information, participating in e-government, acquiring novel leadership and entrepreneurship qualities, and general awareness of the various social issues such as gender discrimination and child development. Thousands have also used the Stations walk- in service that includes Internet access, fax machines, photocopiers and various multimedia services.
