in

 Concept:

Through this program, KAFD finances scientific research projects conducted by university students. The projects are selected and supervised by the Scientific Research Unit at the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau ( KADDB). The program seeks to enhance creativity and excellence among youth. Promoted in all universities, including through field visits, the program seeks to support creative and excelling university students, through providing them with the adequate climate to unleash their potential and creativity. The effort translates into facts on the ground the vision and recommendations of the Jordan Youth Forum, in which participants stressed the need to support innovative and distinct university students. It steers students towards developing their academic achievement approaches into new horizons where they embrace critical thinking, creativity and innovation.

Objectives:

  • Providing the suitable environment to support the distinct and creative formal universities' students.
  • Directing the students to develop their ways of thinking and widening their vision into creative thinking, research and development
  • Enhancing the competition among students studying within one university, or in different universities, based on productivity, suitability and initiation.
  • Develop and elevate the standards of higher education
  • Supporting sustainable development in Jordan, through improving human resources in the country.

Technical supervision:

KAFD signed an agreement with 'King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau' (KADDB), in which the latter (through its scientific research unit), will supervise and follow up on the research projects that KAFD finances.
What are the conditions and terms to finance a project?

  • The project has to be a graduation applicable project, and should be connected to one of the industrial sector or national institutions in the Kingdom. In addition, it has to achieve an added value to the field of research.

  • The number of students participating in the project (executive team) should not be less than 3 BA students. This condition doesn’t apply to masters programs.

  • Receiving projects is through KAFD offices in public and private universities, or through scientific research centers in Jordan University, Faculty of Engineering.

  • Through its scientific center, KADDB selects the distinguished research projects.

  • KADDB has the right to propose some creative ideas for the projects, in order for them to be financed by KAFD, in condition that KADDB takes the responsibility of supervision and follow up.

  • An agreement then is signed between the selected research project team from one side, and KAFD and KADDB from the other, stating the commitments of all parties, the content of the agreement, the method of implementation, the finance and the follow up according to the application of financial aid.

  • KAFD will finance the approved projects, according to purchase orders given from the research team to the scientific research center of KADDB for revision, and handed in to KAFD to take proper actions.

  • The research team has to monthly report the status of the project to the scientific research center/ KADDB, to assure the implementation of the project according to the agreed time table, and to brief the working process.

  • The extra equipments and materials, which were bought to the research project, are considered a property of KAFD and by the end of the project should be returned to KAFD.

  • KAFD and KADDB will form a combined committee from specialists in both private and public sector, to select the best research project among all the implemented yearly projects.

  • The team of the project selected as the best project by the committee will be granted a cash award in a special ceremony

  • The projects which prove to be successful will be adopted in cooperation with KAFD and KADDB through supporting them to be fostered by private sector institutions.

Over the past five years KAFD has financed 99 graduation projects in public and private universities, of which 81 have been completed and 18 are on their way to completion for the academic year of 2008-2009.
