Mediterranean Youth Technology Club (MYTecC)

in

The Mediterranean Youth Technology Club (MYTecC) is an inspirational program aimed at improving youth employment prospects by providing high school students with a well-founded, after school education program. It is being implemented in Jordan for the first time under the umbrella of KAFD.

The program provides basic technology and computer skills, together with an interactive English Language curriculum to enable the students communicate with their peers in other participating countries from the Mediterranean region and the Arab World through virtual and life skills activities using Web2.0.

Concept:

The program is designed to empower and educate youth in order to enable them to become members of an integrated society that are tolerant and capable of understanding themselves and others. This is achieved in an 18-month program, where the participating youth simultaneously follow four different yet complimentary learning tracks.   The four tracks in the program are:

  1. Language track: English courses

With different countries with different languages participating in the program, it is important to use English and teach English at an adequate level to communicate and create the desired results. Furthermore, technological advancements primarily occur in English, the language course focuses on IT English.

  1. Technical track: Improved employment prospects

By providing the basic Cisco Network Academy Program – IT Essentials 1 & 2 (at the introductory level) participants complete the required curriculum to sit for the internationally recognized A+ Diploma. This helps in equipping the applicants for PC technician posts in the future.

  1. Social track: Life skills development

In broad terms, the program tackles many values needed for future success, which include, but are not limited to: personal responsibility, group responsibility, time management skills, promoting values that accept diversity and equality, philanthropic values, democratic values, dialogue and communication capabilities within the group, developing a critical view, community entrepreneurship, leadership, and multi-nationalism.

  1. Communication track: Virtual activities

A forum of open communication amongst participants will fully achieve the objectives of the program. Therefore, a portal has been developed that encompasses all aspects of MYTecC and meets the specific needs of the program, allowing the participants to use the skills they acquire throughout the program with participants from other countries.
